ABC Wednesday - P is for Paradise
Two weeks ago I posted N is for Ninety Mile Beach. Today we are returning to New Zealand but moving from the far North to the far South and visiting Paradise.
The road starts from Queenstown and heads along the the shores of Lake Wakatipu towards Glenorchy.
The road traverses sheep pasture.
In the distance are the snow-capped peaks of the Forbes Mountains.
At Diamond Lake there is a short section of forestry. Black swans and their cygnets are swimming in the lake.
Eventually the road comes to an almost dry river crossing.
I decide that this is really suitable only for 4WD and not for a hire-car. We turn our backs on the Forbes Mountains and head back, stopping to look at the For Sale signs.
In the UK one usually buys a house and the land comes with it. New Zealand practice seems to be to sell off sections of land and then build a house on the land. If you buy another piece of land you move the house, lock stock and barrel to the new location. That day in 2001 we could have bought our own little piece of Paradise.
You can read more about our visit to Paradise on Land of the Long White Cloud.
More P posts can be seen on the ABC Wednesday Anthology blog.
Others can be found via the ABC Wednesday with Mister Linky which carries a registry of participants.

When living in Singapore we wanted to visit New Zealand, but did not find time before we had to return to Norway. They say Kiwi country is like Norway, but even more "Paradised"
ReplyDeleteHow come I feel at home looking at those pictures? Except for the moving house of course concept. We don't do that.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful country. I love that you got that photo of the piece of Paradise sign!!
ReplyDeleteNew Zealand holds a fascination for me - perhaps because it is so far away. Great photos..
ReplyDeleteWhat a magnificent area.. looks like a place I would love to settle down. Beautiful!

New Zealand is Paradise indeed! I was only on the South Island, but the beauty of it was overwhelming.
ReplyDeleteYou are fortunate to have been able to see NZ. I regret not having done so.
ReplyDeleteI always feel NZ is Australia's beautiful back yard! It's so easy to get there and it's so different from Australia. South Island is always praised but I love the lush pastures of North Island. I have friends and relations there and I'm cruising round NZ in February. Paradise! Here I come!
ReplyDeleteIt certainly does appear to be "paradise." I understand NZ is one of the most beautiful places in the world for its stunning geography.
ReplyDeleteAlways wanted to go to NZ. Looks like a very nice place to be!
ReplyDeleteCan't argue with this. Provence is my personal paradise, but this looks idylic.
ReplyDeleteThank you for taking us on a tour to Paradise.
ReplyDeleteSo I am wondering just how much money would it take to buy a piece of Paradise?
Bear((( )))
I think we all want our piece of paradise.
ReplyDeleteThis looks like it would do nicely.
I guess it would really be costly to move the entire house someplace else.
How much costs a little piece of Paradise on earth ?
ReplyDeletesome parts of kiwi country have that pristine beauty that goes with untouched earth, like the scenes you have captured here. it is simpl;y too far from the rest of the world, which is why i prefer to live in europe
ReplyDeleteIt really is an incredibly beautiful country.
ReplyDeleteThere is a real sense of innocent beauty in these shots! Stunning!
ReplyDeleteI remember seeing houses moved while we were in NZ and being amazed! Makes a lot of sense though.
ReplyDeleteYour pictures make me nostalgic.
My daughter and her husband just returned from two weeks in New Zealand with many beautiful photographs of the North Island. Thank you for taking us along on such a lovely journey on the South Island!
ReplyDeleteAs much as I would love to, I don't believe I will ever make it to NZ in my lifetime, but I will enjoy your beautiful photos and story to go with it.
ReplyDeleteAmazing how much of our lands look the same...and yet so different. Perfect ABC Wed. P post!
ReplyDeletePiece of Paradise! I LOVE it! Your world is very beautiful!
