Skywatch Friday: Broadbottom

Last Friday I went for a walk around the nearby village of Broadbottom. Please do not snigger at the name; it doesn't deserve it.

The village lies on the border of Cheshire and Derbyshire and I was here on the Derbyshire side of the river Etherow which marks the boundary.

High above me is the railway line from Manchester to Glossop.

You can trace the line back to where it bridges Market Street.

To learn more about the village check out the website of the Broadbottom Community Association.

  10. Looks a long way up. At least we know that the Victorians built it well and so won't fall down as a train goes over it.

  11. I so love the English names for towns - I wonder if this one was named after the wife of someone important!!!!

    Nice angle!!!

  12. Great lines & angles in your photo. I like the fact that it's a man-made structure that's prominent in your picture too.

  17. What an interesting photo! Love the angle, and the bridge is so stark and dramatic against the sky. Very nice!

  18. Very cool shot. Is it just the angle or is it VERY VERY high? In any case, it's a great photo.

  19. Was the founder of Broadbottom a fellow by the name of Hugh Jass?

    Inquiring minds want to know...

  20. I like your slanted "T" shot today! I would never snigger at the name 'broadbottom,' since in the US there are lots of places with odd names, even a place in DC referred to as "Foggybottom."

Saw your comment on Louis' blog about waiting for your cornflakes to soften...I like 'em crispy, but my Serbian husband heats the milk to pour over them, aarrgh.

  27. I like the way you take a picture of the bridge any how I don't say much on names of town.
There town south of here called Athol and people real makes a deal about it's name.

My sky watch picture is up and if you get chance stop by and visit.
