ABC Wednesday - G is for Grassington
This is the main square in Grassington, Wharfedale, Yorkshire. These photographs are from a visit we made in September 2006.
Now some folk call it a village but this building with the clock was originally the Town Hall.
You probably don't want to know what is in the tank, being towed down Main Street by that tractor.
Another view of the Square from the other side. This time I've used various techniques to produce an artistic impression. The original photograph can be seen on the Geograph website.

That final photograph looks like a very early print!
ReplyDeleteI've also no doubt that the contents of the tank are what helps the crops to grow!
I'm guessing the contents are the same as in the tank in this entry of mine from January: http://ascattering.blogspot.com/2009/01/my-world-tuesday-you-know-you-live-in.html
ReplyDeleteHave a great day!
Thanks for a lovely post! Love the final photo, you've done really beautiful things with it and it does indeed look like a very early print. Thanks for sharing Grassington!
ReplyDeleteThat looks like a nice town.
ReplyDeleteLovely post, Gerald. Your photos are like postcards, good postcards.
ReplyDeleteMy guess for the tank truck is liquid manure. Let's hope it doesn't spring a leak while driving through the village.:)
Great to se the old photo too. Have a fun abc:)
ReplyDeleteI think I would like it here in this village/small town. It looks very nice.
ReplyDeletegood post!
I live the old buildings, and the artsy look of the manipulation of the last photograph

I loved the Yorkshire villages and your 'sketch' portrays one of them delightfully. What a clever technique! I wonder what Rembrandt would have done with modern technology!
ReplyDeleteI thought the last was an early until I took a closer look. Not familiar with this place as lovely as it looks unlike the contents of the tank no doubt.
ReplyDeleteTerrific treatment of the picture. I really like the pen-sketch feel of it.
ReplyDeleteHmm, I don't think I want to know about the tank...LOL.
Is this where we get grasington ducks Gerald?
ReplyDeleteNice looking little town. I did go to geograph to view your other photo, and it's the best of the three...love your artistic impression also.
ReplyDeleteNice photo techniques. You're right - I don't want to know what's in the tank. :)
ReplyDeleteI love the 2nd photo of the Town Hall with the clock tower. The 3rd photo is very artistic and creative...love what you did with it! As for what's in the tank...I think I know but don't even want to think about it. LOL!
ReplyDeleteThis is my 1st ever participation in ABC Wednesday! So far it's lots of fun.
G as a Great Gerald genius post !
ReplyDeleteYou did some very creative things to that last photo.
ReplyDeleteI love English villages (or towns). So picturesque.
Lovely.
The old town hall is a handsome building. The third photo is striking - it really DOES look like an old print. Wonderful.
ReplyDeleteMY ABC Wednesday post is at
More of Me - EG
The architecture of the town hall reminds me very much of the style of houses in the Brie area of France. Strange, isn't it?
ReplyDeleteHi Gerald, I can see that spring is in the air.
ReplyDeleteLovely photos and great choice for 'G'
Tyra
The third photo looks like it was hand drawn - good job!
ReplyDeleteWell , I would like to know what was in the tank?? I like yor photos and how did you create the second one? I saw the original!
ReplyDeleteWell , I would like to know what was in the tank?? I like your photos and how did you create the second one? I saw the original!
ReplyDeleteThat view is very familiar to me! I think I must have taken that same photo! If I remember rightly, we walked up the road to the left of the town hall and there was a hotel where we had lunch.
ReplyDeleteLove that last artistic photo. Great G post!
ReplyDeleteI loved that last photo - very artistic as you have said.
ReplyDeleteHave a great week.
You fooled me with the last picture. It really looks like an old print. I'd like to visit this town. It looks lovely.
ReplyDeleteI had never heard of Grassington but whether town or village it looks like a lovely, peaceful place.
ReplyDeleteThe photo really does appear as an early litho. How cool!
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting The Mane Point!
Blessings,
Linda
I can guess what's in the tank, and I'm hoping it doesn't leak down the street.
ReplyDeleteGrassington! Just down the road from here. I've a good idea what's the tractor's towing. Its contents get liberally spread about round here. Ah, the smell of the country!
