Signs on the North Pier, Blackpool

A notice on Blackpool's North Pier "prohibits the filming of this attraction for public broadcast without the prior written permission of the management. This also applies to the use of stills photography"

Beneath it is a blue plaque that says "On 19th July 1948 Sooty was discovered by Harry Corbett OBE near this spot."

A contribution to signs, signs.

  3. It is a good thing you were not using a video camera. I am wondering who Sooty and Harry are?

  4. I remember Sooty and Harry Corbett. They were on TV in England many, many years ago. Sooty was a hand puppet -- a little bear. It was a children's program and we loved it. I called my first black cat Sooty in memory of him.

  5. I wonder why filming is not prohibited without prior permission.

    1. It is so they can charge fees - it is private property so they can impose rules - they are unlikely to chase non-commercial photographers taking "snaps". A recent episode of Coronation Street was shot here - it would have been closed to the public during shooting.

  6. That is one way to make sure they make money - and that they are always portrayed in a good light ;)
