After a nice lunch in the Methodist Church coffee shop, we wandered into the shopping centre.
It offered views across to the single spired St Mary's church in the centre of town.
Beyond that lay the Minster pool which was home to some ducklings.
A narrow road led us down to the famous three-spired Cathedral.
We didn't venture in, but went around the side where we met King Charles II.
A plague in the pavement told us we were on the Heart of England Way.
Back home it had rained all day, but in Lichfield it was cool but sunny. As soon as we left the rain came down and before long we were stuck in a traffic jam on the M6
A photograph from our 2006 visit can be seen on my photoblog Sithenah.
Neat post about Lichfield. The three-spired cathedral is beautiful. Thanks for the links to the Heart of England Way and the photo of the Lichfield Guild clock at Sithenah. I couldn't get the link to the cathedral to open. Now I'm curious what you've put at Hyde Daily Photo for L.
ReplyDeleteHi Lynette -- I'll double-check that link to the Cathedral to make sure it works -- Hyde Daily Photo is not participating in ABC Wednesday -- I'll be posting "Gate to Green Lane" there within the hour!
ReplyDeleteLovely photo essay. Really enjoyed it.
ReplyDeleteAlso chuckled at your comment on my blog where you said the wind brought the autumn leaves back again.
We have two plane trees (like maples) and every autumn we get MILLIONS of leaves that say ``rake me, rake me''!!!
We have a Lichfield too only we spell it with a 't' after the c. It is the best area in Connecticut. Thanks for the view into this part of England, the pictures and text are great.
ReplyDeleteHappy ABC Wednesday. It is still Tuesday night here.
Litchfield looks very picturesque. The picture of St Mary's Church reminds me of some of the old church buildings in Port Elizabeth Central - same style of architecture. I have been collecting pictures and plan to do a feature on them sometime
ReplyDeleteI love old cathedrals with so much detail and by looking at your photos, I think I would love looking around St Mary's.
ReplyDeleteAn interesting tour around Lichfield. I love the architecture. I'm sure the Native American musicians were greeted with smiling faces as they entertained the crowds.
ReplyDeleteLichfield is on my doorstep so I know the place very well. One of these mornings I'm going to get up early and take some photos before the shops open.
ReplyDeleteLovely collection of photos; it is great to get a guided tour, however brief through another part of the country.
ReplyDeleteHi, Lichfield is about 4 miles from where I live, therefore I know it's merits, yes it is a very nice city and you have captured some great shots, the cathedral is always worth a visit.
ReplyDeleteDon't get many native indiands there that often so you were lucky to capture them
I forgot to mention earlier that you took some great shots. Also, when is there ever not delays on the M6?
ReplyDeleteBeautiful pictures! I would have loved to hear the Native American musicians.
ReplyDeleteI like this stroll through LIchfield! Everything looks so nice and the Heart of England.....cool.
ReplyDeleteI laughed at Mike's comment...I was going to say "Roadworks in UK???? NEVER! LOL"
ReplyDeleteLovely shots Gerald. I've never been to Lichfield but I know of Lord Lichfield! :)
ReplyDeleteStrange place for Native Americans but I guess music is universal so why not.
That made me want to go back to York again. Last time I was there the minster was shrouded with scaffolding but these projects go on for years don't they.
I would have loved to visit the three-spired cathedral. There's always something interesting to photograph of old churches. What history. Great pictures of Lichfield.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the tour of Lichfield on the ABC Wednesday. Great sights and inviting scenery.
ReplyDeleteLooks like a great place for taking pics!
ReplyDeleteVery colorful and lively photos with your description. I hope you can help me and check if my blog still poses problem for you in IE. Much thanks.
ReplyDeleteAckworth, I thoroughly enjoyed your comment at L is for Legs at Portland (OR) Daily Photo. I went round and round in my mind, wondering if I should or shouldn't post it. I even cropped it to just legs and got Mama's opinion. I'm glad we made the decision that we did.
ReplyDeleteOh, by the way, here's a link for you to a story in Wednesday's Oregonian, our local daily. It's about wind farms.

That is beautiful collection of the photos and really interesting tour around that small but beautiful town. The architecture is impressive.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for your help in checking my blog and your addition for blogroll. I need to work on my blogroll which is missing at the moment for ABC. I used to have it and now I can't keep up.
ReplyDeleteWounderfull shots
ReplyDeleteThose St Marys Church ones are just incredible! Thanks so much for sharing!
