Long-tailed Tits & others again

Last October I posted a picture of a bird on the rose bush.

Only later did I learn that the bird in question was in a fact a long-tailed tit.

In April the young birds were frequent visitors

Recently I relocated the bird-feeder to the rose-bush and these are a few of the photographs I've managed to obtain. This one is probably a coal tit, but the long-tailed tits are still around too as well as other species of small birds.

Another photo can be found on Hyde Daily Photo.

  1. I thought about placing a hummingbird feeder in the yard to attract them for photographs too, but I'm sure my dog will chase them away.

  2. It's amazing you can get that close to the bird without it noticing you. Either that or you have a really nice telephoto lense.

  3. Gerald, are you absolutely certain this is a long-tailed tit, it looks much more like a coal tit to me.

  4. Great shots of the tiny birds. I love the way they are tightly hanging on to the ege of the feeder.
Thanks for visiting my blog and your kind comments.

  5. No I'm not certain of anything - this could be a coal tit for all I know. Definitely there have been some long-tailed tits here. A slightly larger bird was there this afternoon - it had a reddish-brownish breast [can't be too accurate on colour being red-green colourblind] but too big to be a robin.

ming no telephoto lens just a decent zoom - the bush is only a few feet from my window. The nearness to the house discourages the larger birds [starlings, blackbirds, magpies, doves] from feeding here -- the did when the feeder was in the willow tree away from the house.

One day last week I saw the squirrel in the tree but it saw me and soon skiddaddled.

Today a snail seems to have crawled up the middle branch of the bush - thought of getting a photo of it but didn't and now it is too dark.

  11. That is a Coal Tit - Long Tailed Tits have a tail which is about as long as the body itself...your bird has quite a short tail. Great photo though!
