ABC Wednesday - L is for Lowry Centre
The Lowry Centre is situated in Salford Quays. It houses two theatres as well as various gallery spaces that display contemporary work as well as works by L.S. Lowry from the collection originally housed at Salford Art Gallery. In addition there are other studio spaces, a refreshment area, gift shop and information centre. It opened in April 2000.
Across the concourse is the Lowry Outlet Mill for those who love shopping.
A footbridge spans the Manchester Ship Canal and leads towards the Quay West Building and the Imperial War Museum North.
My other L posts this week are Long Meadow Passage at Hyde Daily Photo ~~ Lovers Alley at Old Hyde ~~ Lights along the pier at Sithenah
To visit other ABC L posts go to Mrs. Nesbitt's Place.

ReplyDeleteAH L.S. Lowry the painter, wow how neat , Tom Wiggley posted a statue of him several blogs ago… great additional links…
ReplyDeleteThat's an impressive building.
ReplyDeleteI have been there, The bridge is a great design, it lifts up to allow boats through but have you ever seen it lifted.
ReplyDeleteI have three Lowry prints, I wish they were originals.
It is amazing what they have done with Salford Quay, what used to be a dirty and dismal dockland area has been transformed with all the new buildings around.
ReplyDeleteI went there on the Metrolink train, another great project for Manchester.
It is a very interesting piece of architecture.
ReplyDeleteLowry excellent choice for L.A great artist in my opinion.
ReplyDeleteYou have made me re think what I would find in Salford, and how Salford as a town looks.
Top notch shot. As fro waethervanes and lighthouses, it's quite common here.
I visited the Lowry Centre a few years ago, good place for photographs. Yours are very good.
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear many cities now have these major theatre venues for the arts. The foot bridge is quite an architectural wonder.
