ABC Wednesday - Q is for Queen Victoria's back

Queen Victoria is famous for being not amused.

This statue is at Piccadilly Gardens in Manchester, except she has her back to the gardens, except the gardens have been replaced by fountains.

She sits here facing an amusement arcade and the buses departing for Ashton under Lyne and other points East.

I've featured part of this statue here before on my post loneliness.

You can see the front of the statue by visiting Sithenah.

My other ABC Wednesday Q posts this week are ~~ Queen Adelaide Inn Sign at Hyde Daily Photo ~~ Queen Adelaide Reservoir under construction at Old Hyde.

To visit more ABC-Wednesday Q posts go to Mrs. Nesbitt's Place.

  8. Thanks for visiting my Q post. I almost posted my female cats - queens of course! This is so sad that times have changed and forced the statue to look on other sights than those that were intended.
    Nice Q post though.

  9. A second view of the queen not being unamused. Why is it so?

I chose to use nearby Quadra Island for Q. It is a fun vacation destination that you can see by clicking here. – Margy

  11. Poor old Victoria, I bet she wished she was facing the other way! Good Q choice.

  12. Right now she is being climbed over by disgruntled football fans. A giant screen set up to show the Zenica-Rangers match has broken. There appears to be a lot of trouble going on there.

  13. I've always been fascinated by the life of Queen Victoria. My younger daughter was born on the Tuesday after our Victoria Day and I considered naming her Victoria, but my husband worried that she'd end up as "Vicky" which neither of us liked. I looked at your other site where the front of the statue is pictured and it's absolutely stunning! Nice job today! As always. ;D

  16. She looks a lot more cheerful in this statue than in others, like the one I featured from Port Elizabeth.

  17. This statue was alluded to in the lyrics of a song by Manchester rock group, The Fall; "Queen Victoria... is a big black slug in Piccadilly, Manchester..." ...Know what they mean, mind...
