ABC Wednesday - S is for Scream
Last weekend we went to Blackpool for three nights, staying at the Bond Hotel. It is on the South Shore and a street away from the Pleasure Beach.
The Star attraction there is the roller coaster known officially as the "Big Dipper" but affectionately as simply the "Big 'Un".
As the cars reach the top and topple over the edge, the Screams of the riders can be heard from the South Pier to Squires Gate!
My other ABC Wednesday S posts this week are ~~ St Michael's & All Angels at Hyde Daily Photo ~~ Sundial Cottage at Old Hyde ~~ South Pier at Sunset at Sithenah

waaaaaahhhhhhhh thats not my thing, too fast and dangerous for my mind:)
ReplyDeleteCan you understand why people want to ride one like rthat?
ReplyDeleteNever in my life.
S is for sick when I think of being up there. But great pictures.
ReplyDeleteGreat shots!
ReplyDeleteFun S!
Yeeeeeeesssssssssssssss I love this! Wonderful choise for the letter S and wonderful shots! Very fun:)
ReplyDeleteDid you? I mean, get on it and scrrream as well?
ReplyDeleteS is also for Sick, as in I would be! Yikes!
ReplyDeletedeb o no you wouldn't get me up there - I certainly wouldn't entertain it although to be fair you do get quite a long ride on this roller-coaster, there is more to it than just this big drop - I can understand some people enjoying this kind of thing - but can't understand the thrill of the short things that just shoot you up in the air and drop you down, nor the one like I saw on the South Pier where they strap you up and fling you around. To be fair they are quite stringent about not allowing people with health problems to partake.
ReplyDeleteI know it well, and the screams. Nice lateral thinking.
ReplyDelete"Louis" would Scream, too, if somehow he found himself on this!
ReplyDeleteA most fitting S (in addition to the great photography - especially the first one)!
ReplyDeleteNever again will you find me in one of those.
I grew up in Long Beach where we had an excellent old wooden roller coaster, on "The Pike". Long Beach was a Navy port, so we weren't allowed to go unexcorted, but it was fun when we did get to go.
ReplyDeleteYahooooo!!! I'd love to ride that one... I'm a big fan of rollercoasters, unfortunately here i Rio we only have one, not a scary one, blah! :)
ReplyDeleteGreat S post indeed!
Kisses from Nydia.
Wonderful choise for the letter S and great shots!
ReplyDeleteI love rollercoaster.
what a coincidence! I am listening to Michael Crichton's Next in the car now (which is another long story!) and just today the story was talking about Blackpool! I had never heard of it until today and here you have it. I don't understand roller coasters at all. I tried a baby one once and gave up on them altogether.
ReplyDeleteScream indeed, along with splat as the sick hits the floor below.
ReplyDeleteDoubt my stomach could cope with such a ride these days.
Great post.
Gary (Bodge)
I don't want or need a second heart attack so I would beg off riding this one.
ReplyDeleteGreat "S" choice but I will not being joining you. Looks too SCARY for me.
ReplyDeleteWOW.. that looks scary
ReplyDeleteI went on our Pacific National Exhibition roller coaster once when I was about 14 and swore NEVER to do that again! Then when we took our kids to Disneyland, we went on Space Mountain...little did I realize that it was a roller coaster in the DARK!!! I thought I'd never recover!
ReplyDeletePerfect. . .and scary!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing.
I am so with Marlow on this.....I repeat what he said!!!!
