Sky Watch Friday: Beyond the Once a Week Station
This week's picture was taken last Tuesday morning from the top of a bus as it passed over Denton Railway Station.
Denton Station has the UK's least frequent train service, at once per week, in one direction, from Stockport to Stalybridge. It runs on Saturdays only, departing Stockport at 11:28 by request only for Stalybridge, arriving 11:37 at Denton.
The train is known amongst railway enthusiasts as the Ghost Train.
Behind the embankment is Audenshaw Reservoir and the M60 motorway.
We are looking North towards the Eastern edge of the Greater Manchester conurbation.

ReplyDeleteFascinated by the non-frequency of the service!!!
ReplyDeleteThat does look lonely. What a beautiful sky. I guess once a week can catch you a movie or a dinner out?
ReplyDeleteIt looks like a lonely place and the bench so empty. I wonder how crowded the platform gets when the train arrives.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful sky.I wonder if there is great excitement on the one day a train goes through here!!
ReplyDeleteN3S loves this pic, anything to do with trains and he is enraptured...though barriers on level crossings seem to be extra special!
