ABC Wednesday - C is for Cretan Cats

I contemplated for ages what to post for ABC Wednesday this week. I could have compiled any number of collections of cows or clocks. I could have considered visting Catalina or Chester, Christchurch or Cobh.

In the end, while browsing through files, I came across these three photographs of Cretan cats I'd created for the Cypriot magazine Creature Features. One of the photos appears in issue #16 along with three poems of mine on the subject of dogs.

  4. Gerald I'm an absolute fool when it comes to cats. When I sit down someplace a cat will appear from nowhere and jump on my lap. When I work in a garden a strange cat will follow me around. If I walk down the street to the shops and cats see me they stop what they are doing and stare at me.
The other day I saw a cat quietly sitting in the middle of an ice rink. That's cats. They are different. I love them for it.

  11. Beautiful cats. I once was caretaker to a cat born on Crete; his name was Demetrius and he was the size of a baby cougar; at 33 pounds, he was too much cat to cuddle, I fear, but I loved him anyway.

  17. Two days ago I went shopping for an old lady who lives alone except for her cat. I gave her the groceries in a cardboard box. She left the empty box in a corner. After I left, the cat claimed the box. And now she sleeps in it instead of on the bed. The cat I mean, not the old lady.

  18. Cats are one of my favourite animals despite my allergies. They are such independent creatures.
