ABC Wednesday - J is for Jet Amber Fields

Jet Amber Fields between St Anne's Road, Denton and Dunkirk Lane, Hyde was landscaped in the 1980s having previously been used as a refuse tip.

In the 19th century the area was used for mining.

More recently it has been used for kite flying.

For more J posts visit ABC Wednesday.

  1. Much better as a kite flying site than a reuse tip.

  3. I'd also rather see it used for kite-flying! Looks like a good open place to run and play.

  5. Ah, I was going to make the K is for Kite reference. I have Beatlesque songs running thru my head, Paul's Jet and Beatles' Mr. Kite.

  8. What an interesting name that field has! Do you know its origin?

    Did they mine jet there?

  10. Much more attractive now than at other times in its history - a lovely place to stretch your legs and breathe some fresh air.

  13. Such a pretty view of the field leading into it from the path.
You had me working today - didn't know the word 'tip' and I like the Jet-Amber.
I for one think dumps are great - we've gotta have them. But reclaiming the land is even better. Our Botanical Gardens are on a 50's/60's tip. Around here, after they are reclaimed, it's nice to see some land where developers cannot build.

  14. We do kite flying on the beach or riverside park with concrete pavement. I imagine that kite flying can be massy in the field.

  15. I too agree that this open place would be much better as a kite flying site or a place to run and play.
