ABC Wednesday - X is for
Xmas Tree in Stockport
Behind the Xmas Tree in Merseyway Shopping Centre in Stockport, Cheshire is the still empty ex Woolworths store. Twelve months ago it would have been busy with its final sale as the company went into receivership before closing down after Xmas.
Also behind the Xmas tree this year was a children's carousel whose reflection I caught in the old store's window.

A magnificent tree, but pity about the shop. A bit of a counterpoint here.
ReplyDeleteOh yes ofcourse!
ReplyDeleteGreat one Gerald.
Happy New Year!
That's wonderful! I would have liked the Christmas balls on my tree, brilliant colors:-)
ReplyDeleteWish you a Happy New Year!
Right away I noticed Marks & Sparks and Woolworths. Too bad about Woolworths going under, but at least you still have M&S...they pulled out of here a few years ago. eXtraordinarily beautiful Xmas tree!
ReplyDeleteWoolworth's has been ex for quite a while in the US.
ReplyDeleteThat is happening to a lot of shops it seems these days. What a great shot, Gerald! I love the decorations on the tree! Wishing you a very Happy New Year!

Yes, sad to see Woolworth's become history. We all seemed to have grown up with one.
ReplyDeleteGreat shot of the Xmas tree!
Woolworth used to be one of my favorite stores as a child. So sad to see its demise.
ReplyDeletePretty tree though and good choice for the letter X.
Good pair pf X's!
ReplyDeleteNicely shot...but sad to know what happened Woolsworth..Happy New Year!

No pick and mix this year but the Christmas tree is great.
ReplyDeleteI always find it sad to see these vacant stores still standing empty. But the Christmas tree is lovely. Thank goodness this was Xmas, or I wouldn't have come up with a choice for this week!
ReplyDeleteOf course X-mas ! I totally forgot. The X-mas tree is very pretty. That Woolworth doesn't exist anymore is sad, my uncle was director in Woolworth in Frankfurt Germany. (long ago)
ReplyDeleteGood timing for X this time around, isn't it? I've only just started reading, but I'm guessing there'll be a few 'X-mas' items! LOL!
ReplyDeleteSuch a shame about Woolworths .. but they made the mistake of trying to compete on the same ground as all the other department stores instead of doing what they used to do so well.
Excellent X. The Woolworth's here burned down about two decades ago and was never rebuilt. They've had problems for a long time. Too bad.
ReplyDeleteI still remember the first Woolworth that we went at Charleston, SC some 30 more years ago. I suppose they just can not follow the progress of the market. Happy New Year!
ReplyDeleteHaving almost grown up in a British Woolworths store, I find it hard t believe that they are no more!
