Monday Murals: More in the Piccadilly Tunnel

Last week I showed you an official mural of the Manchester Rose in the Piccadilly Tunnel which carries the Rochdale Canal under this part of the city.

Beyond the lovely official mural is Lock #85 where someone is about to the open the gate for their narrowboat to enter. On the opposite wall, away from the towpath, are a number of "unofficial" murals or street art.

One lies under a police notice and is likely to be temporary.

Next week I'll show your more of the lock and a rather nicer "unofficial mural".

  2. Really funny one. One could think that the artist also made the sign above.

  3. Very interesting! I am glad you captured it before they remove it!

  4. Well that is a creative mural by somebody who doesn't like prohibitions.

  5. Reminds me of a Bansky piece. (Is 21C, that Chrissy mentions, a street artist's name?) The placement uses the warning sign to great effect. Thanks for contributing to Monday Mural.

  6. Extremely important to enlarge this picture -- at least I didn't see how funny it is until I did so! Yeah, I just bet it's gone by now. Generally I'm not a fan of 'unofficial murals' b/c over here they're mostly just gang signs and graffiti.... yours, at least this one, are not only witty (!) but also well done!
