Only Six Allowed

I found this sign in the lift up to the coffee lounge in the New Central Methodist Church in Blackpool.

"Only 6 wheelchairs can be allowed in the coffee lounge at any one time due to health & safety and risk assessment."

So just what jobsworth decides six is safe and seven isn't?

A contribution to signs, signs.

  1. I'd agree it was bizarre if health and safety legislation had been cited to support the rule, but a risk assessment, probably a fire safety risk assessment, could reasonably come to the conclusion that a limit was appropriate, and then derive such a limit. You could always ask for their rationale; it would be interesting to find out.

  2. The really irritating part of this is that you presumably have to go in the lift up to the coffee lounge to see how many wheelchairs are already there.

  3. So if the sign is in the lift, does that mean that you still have to get into the lift and go up to the coffee lounge to count the number of wheel chairs?

  5. This place needs a wheelchair flash-mob to test it out.

  6. Never seen a sign like this. Perhaps it has to do with the number of wheel chairs that can fit into the elevator?
