Zion Chapel, Rowen

Zion Chapel or Capel Seion is found in the village of Rowen in the Conwy Valley.

It was built in 1819 as Seion Calvinistic Methodist Chapel and rebuilt in 1841 in the Simple Round-Headed and Vernacular style of the short-wall entry type.

The chapel was rededicated in 1841 as Siloam Particular Baptist Chapel and later used as a Women's Institute Hall and then a private residence.

The chapel is square in shape with three aisles. When it is open it houses an exhibition of Welsh nonconformity; photographs of the school, village and local people.

It has one of the most attractive ceiling roses that I have ever come across

  1. Is it a church again or just a museum? Lovely ceiling rose. Love the color of it.

    1. I'm not sure - I think it may occasionally be used for services but not regularly - I found it difficult to find information online afterwards and the only literature in the church was in Welsh. I'd love to go back sometime and spend a bit more time there.

  7. Charming! Intriguing that the ceiling rosette is fancier than the rest of the decor.
