Denton War Memorial stands in Victoria Park, near to the Victoria Street entrance. It commemorates the sacrifice of the 379 men of Denton and Haughton who lost their lives during the Great War. It was unveiled on 23 July 1921. On each of the four sides, there are four steps leading up to the memorial. At the front, the dates 1914 and 1918, surrounded by wreathes, are either side of a panel of names. Above, on the central column, it states:
IN GRATEFUL
AND
UNDYING
REMEMBRANCE OF
THOSE WHO GAVE
THEIR LIVES IN
THE GREAT WAR
1914 - 1918
THIS MEMORIAL HAS
BEEN ERECTED BY

These wreaths were laid on Remembrance Sunday, 9th November 2014 and these photographs were taken the next day.

Those memorial wreaths are so beautiful against the stone of the monument. There can never be too many tributes to soldiers who have given their lives, even their time of service.
ReplyDeleteThere are so many great memorials like this one around Britain. I was impressed with the dedication to remember shown...
