a pair of tits

Last October I posted a picture of a long-tailed tit on the rosebush outside my window.

Now there's a couple come back

They've been chirruping incessantly outside

flying up on to the window,

hovering by the wheelie bins

and generally making their presence felt.

Update: Wednesday 4th April.

One of the tits has been tapping at my window again this morning; in fact it has been slightly annoying. Here I've been typing away at the computer and then suddenlt I'm interupted by this rap, tap, rap on the window.

I briefly saw three of them balancing on the telephone wire.

More information on these birds can be found at British Garden Birds, where you can listen to a recording of their song and call.

  1. Lovely.
I think long tailed tits are my favourite.
Without their tails they'd hardly be there.

  3. I'm surprised there are only 2; they usually appear more mob-handed than that!

We're hosting coal, blue and great tits in the garden and I think two pairs of blues have started working on the two nesting boxes.

  9. Gerald, your pictures are so interesting, one looks as if we are beneath. I've never seen one knowingly, is your poem really descriptive of their song, or poetic license?

  10. One of my favourite birds - so nice to see these photos. I like the way you reproduce their song in your haiku!

  11. That is another bird I have not seen. I had not seen a Wood Thrush in 44 years and then saw one last week. I never got its picture though. Ilike your photos and attempts to get the bird. I am not sure what your camera equipment is but I think you did a good job. I like them.

Thanks for coming around. I appreciate seeing you there.

  12. I live in a suburb close to central London and we have a green and a pond

the other day there was a sparrow hawk fluttering about in the trees - and then it came down to the ground and almost ran around pecking at things in the grass

I thought this was quite unusual
