ABC Wednesday - O is for Oldham

This is Clarksfield Road in 1975. We bought our first marital abode here in 1974. It is a road of terraced housing, most of them were larger than the Victorian terraces and had bay windows at the front.

Here is Dunkerley Street being demolished. The view is from Ryeburn Street.

My last shot here is from the Chadderton area approaching the rounadbout near the start of the A627(M) motorway to Rochdale.

A fourth photograph of Oldham 1977 is on my photoblog Sithenah.

More O posts can be seen on the ABC Wednesday Anthology blog.

Others can be found via the ABC Wednesday with Mister Linky which carries a registry of participants.

  1. My family came from Oldham. Of course, since they left in the 1620s, I don't have memories. When my nephew visited the city, he received first class treatment--his surname is Oldham.

  2. I once had a girlfriend from Oldham, must be over forty years ago and I went there to meet her parents. These pictures are a nice memory, thanks.

  4. As a lover of English mystery stories I am always delighted to see photos of the types of places that my fictional detectives may have visited. I love old photos.

  5. Just where IS Oldham in relation to another larger, more well-known city in England? It looks lovely, for sure.

  6. I like to see those old English places. There's a lot in the UK which is preserved and not destroyed by the war as was in the resat of Europe. That's what I like so much.

  9. I once had the dubious pleasure of walking down a cobbled street in Oldham. Interesting to see the here and now. I can here the strains of corrie of the post, and definitely feel the cold chill. Lovely slice of Lancashire, my adopted county.

  10. Nostalgic! But I was rather worried about the dog's next move!

  11. Nice pictures! Were they really looking like that or did you tweak them? I quite like the ghostly feel to them.

Very clever! I love the old photos, and the story to go with them. I've never been to Oldham so it's even more interesting!
