ABC Wednesday - R is for Roller-skating in Russia
We saw this girl on her skates as we approached a junction. Our vehicle turned into the same road and I took this picture as we passed.
R is also for Rolls of Rolled Steel which were lined up on the dock where we berthed in Saint-Petersburg. There were also Rows of excursion buses, as it isn't feasible to visit the city independently. The dock entrance is some three miles away and there is no public transport inside the docks.
To put the skater in perspective, here is a reduced version of the original photograph from which the first one was cropped.
I started a Baltic Cruise blog but what with everything else I've still only completed half of it. You will however find 24 photographs from our first day in Saint-Petersburg on http://www.geraldengland.co.uk/cr2/crp.htm. Eventually I hope to post more.
Good post! Both pictures are nice but I especially like the girl roller skating.
ReplyDeleteGreat R post. I was in Leningrad as it was called back in 1983. Things look a bit different than when we were there.
ReplyDeleteGreat post. I've never roller skated in my life...probably too late to learn now! :o)
ReplyDeleteThat girl needs to start looking where she's going before she ends up having an accident. Interesting photos, I've long wanted to visit Russia. Maybe soon.
ReplyDeleteI loved my roller skates as a child, especially the ball-bearing ones i had at the age of 10!
ReplyDeleteReally great pic of the girl skating!
Oh just read Mike's comment....sounds like me dad! LOL!
ReplyDeleteGood thing it wasn't that crowded on the pavement, can get around quicker. Good pics!
ReplyDeleteI can't balance on skates, so I have not tried it before. It's always nice to watch people skate by. :-)
ReplyDeleteYou are fast to take the shot in the vehicle! You had your camera ready all the time? haha...
I have never visited Russia, never done roller skating but I know a lot about roro-vessels.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the cropped/non-cropped versions. I found that interesting.
ReplyDeleteHave a Nice Wednesday.
GREAT "R" POST! I used to roller skate when I was a kid. I have not done it in many, mnay years.
ReplyDeleteMy word Gerald, you're widely travelled! It certainly broadens the horizons seeing other cultures on a personal level. Great 'R'.
ReplyDeleteRoller skates in my day (don't I sound old) were very basic and always in need of oiling! :)
Great post on the girl with the roller skates
ReplyDeleteNice "R"! Love the roller skates. I used to love to do that but now I would be afraid of falling and damaging myself.
ReplyDeleteI thought St Petersburg was a fantastic place full of photo opportunity
ReplyDeleteA nice shot far away and a clever post with good story on 'r'
ReplyDeleteWhat fun--two appropriate shots so close together.
ReplyDeleteI liek the rolls of steel, i could make a great sculpture out of that. I'm a little envious of the rollerskating girl, i've never mastered the technique and my rollerblades laugh at me every time I open the cupboard where they are hidden.
ReplyDeleteGreat action shots. You got a double R's today. Good Job!
ReplyDeleteBy the way, you posted on my blog about BASIC and random number generators. I remember those from school. Thanks for the memories.
