ABC Wednesday:
X is for X Ray 2 at Tameside Hospital

At Tameside Hospital, Ashton under Lyne, X Ray 2 is situated in the old part of the hospital off Darnton Road.

I decided to give this image the "pencil" treatment.

Shadow Shot Sunday:
Vernon Park Steps

This week we are back at Vernon Park in Stockport.

Here is the top of a set of steps that lead down towards the river.

You can see more of this scene on Geograph and also the steps leading upwards.

ABC Wednesday:
W is for Winterbutlee

This is the railway line from Littleborough to Todmorden viewed from Skew Bridge. Ahead is a tunnel known as the Winterbutlee Tunnel and just visible through the end is Walsden Station.

If we cross the road and look at the railway line heading South, we get a glimpse of a canal lock.

A footpath on the North side of Skew Bridge leads us down to Winterbutlee Lock which is #30 on the Rochdale Canal.

It is quite a way from here to Lock #84 which I showed you in October 2009.

ABC Wednesday:
V is for Viaduct at Woodley

The viaduct at Woodley is a bit of a hidden wonder insofar as there isn't a vantage point (as far as I'm aware) from which one can see the whole of it.

This view from Manor Road is looking at the eastern end of the viaduct as it crosses Hyde Road.

Here now is the view looking from Manor Road through the archway towards Hyde Road.

After Manor Road the next archway crosses the Peak Forest Canal. You can see the underside of it on the photograph I posted in July 2009.

On the day I took these photographs I walked down Manor Road and crossed the canal using Bridge #12 and walked back to Hyde Road along Bankfield Road, crossing under the fourth arch. This view is looking back at the viaduct.

The railway used to be the main line from Woodley to Stockport (Tiviotdale) and points West, but now the line terminates at a nearby industrial area.

ABC Wednesday:
U is for Unst 1985

Unst is the most Northerly inhabited island in the UK.

Beyond Unst is Muckle Flugga which has a lighthouse but like all UK lighthouses is now unmanned. Just beyond Muckle Flugga are Outstacks, the Northernmost bits of British land.

This is as far North as we got in 1985. At the top of the road was the RAF early-warning radar station of Saxa Vord. It was mothballed in the early 21st century.

ABC Wednesday:
T is for Tractor

Not so long I found this tractor in the grounds of what I believe to be an abandoned farm.

For now, at least, I won't reveal when (EXIF data deleted) or where this was taken.

See more T posts at ABC Wednesday.
